What She Wears: The Pieces That Make Me Feel Like HER Every Single Day

I want to tell you something about the way I get dressed.

It is not complicated. It is not strategic. It is not the result of years of fashion study or a consultation with a stylist. It is simply what happens when a woman knows herself well enough to reach for the things that make her feel like her and lets everything else go.

I am 5’2″. I am 49, turning 50 in August. I have a background in ballet and modeling that taught me early how clothes move on a body and how the right piece can change the way you hold yourself in a room.

But none of that is why I dress the way I dress.

I dress this way because getting dressed every morning is one of the ways I choose myself. It is one of the ways she shows up. And these are the pieces she reaches for…again and again, because they never let her down.

The Classic White Button Down Shirt

She has worn this a hundred ways and it has never failed her once.

Tucked into wide leg trousers with gold hoops and a red lip. Open over a black bodysuit, sleeves rolled, effortless. Knotted at the waist over something simple on a Saturday morning. The white button down is not a trend. It is not a formula. It is just a piece that feels like her, clean, elevated, intentional.

I reach for mine constantly. The way it fits, the way it photographs, the way it makes me stand just a little taller, that is what she comes back to.

The Neutral Bodysuit or Tank

This is the piece nobody talks about enough.

A neutral bodysuit, black, white, cream, is what lives underneath everything else. It creates the clean line that lets the rest of the outfit breathe. No bulk. No distraction. Just a seamless, polished foundation that lets her pieces do what they were made to do.

She has several. In different neutrals. Because when something works this well you do not question it.

Black Trousers or Wide Leg Pants

Here is where the elegance lives.

I discovered wide leg trousers later than I should have and now I will never go back. There is something about the way they move, the way a quality pair of wide leg trousers flows when you walk, that feels like wearing confidence.

My cream wide leg trousers are one of the most reached-for pieces in my wardrobe. Paired with a black bodysuit and heeled sandals they create an outfit that looks like it took effort and took none at all. That is the magic.

She is 5’2″ and she wears wide leg trousers without apology. High waisted, heeled, and completely herself.

The Well Fitted Blazer

A blazer is how she says I am intentional without saying a word.

I throw mine over everything, over bodysuits, over simple dresses, over the shoulders of a silk blouse on an evening out. Something about a blazer creates structure in an outfit and in a woman. It is the piece that makes her feel pulled together even on days when she needed a little extra.

She owns at least one. In a neutral that goes with everything. And she reaches for it more than she expected to.

The Silk or Satin Blouse

This is the piece that makes everything feel luxurious.

There is something about the way satin catches light. The way it moves. The way it photographs. A silk or satin blouse in cream or ivory or a deep jewel tone is quiet luxury made wearable and it requires nothing from you except to put it on.

I wear mine tucked into high waisted trousers with gold jewelry and pointed toe heels. Simple. Complete. Her.

What Getting Dressed Really Is

I did not build my wardrobe because someone told me what to buy.

I built it by paying attention, to what made me feel like her when I put it on and what made me feel like I was wearing someone else’s idea of me. Over time I let go of the second category and kept everything in the first.

Getting dressed every morning is not a small thing. It is an act of self recognition. It is standing in front of your mirror and saying, I see you. I choose you. I am showing up as you today.

These pieces help me do that. Every single day.
